Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive holistic therapy often chosen by people who want to relax, reset and support their natural balance. It does not require effort from the client. You remain clothed, rest comfortably and allow the session to unfold.
At Shambala Holistic & Retreat Centre, Reiki sits within a wider holistic approach that has been practised by Sukhada Smith-Repass since 1999.
What Is Reiki?
Reiki is commonly described as an energy-based therapy. In practical terms, a session is quiet, restful and simple. The practitioner places hands lightly on or near the body, working in a calm and respectful way.
Many people come to Reiki when they feel stressed, depleted, emotionally heavy or in need of gentle support. Others use it as part of ongoing self-care.
What Happens in a First Session?
Your first Reiki session usually begins with a short conversation. This gives you space to say what brings you to the treatment and ask any questions.
You then lie down fully clothed, often with a blanket for warmth. The room is kept quiet and comfortable. During the treatment, you may feel warmth, tingling, heaviness, lightness or simply a deep sense of rest. Some people notice very little at first, and that is also normal.
What Are the Benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is often used to support relaxation, emotional steadiness and a sense of inner balance. Guests may book Reiki when they need help slowing down or when they want a therapy that feels gentle and non-invasive.
The benefits are individual. For some, Reiki feels like a reset. For others, it creates enough quiet to notice what they need next.
Reiki at Shambala
Sukhada teaches Reiki as well as offering Reiki sessions, so the work is part of the long-standing foundation of Shambala rather than an add-on treatment.
The centre’s wider approach is holistic and individual. Reiki can be booked on its own, or experienced as part of a retreat or wellness day where rest, sound, movement and nature work together.
After Your Session
After Reiki, give yourself time. Drink water, avoid rushing if possible, and notice how you feel over the rest of the day.
If you are new to holistic therapies, Reiki is often a calm first step.
